In Matthew 16:16, the [[apostle Peter]] is responding to [[Jesus]]' question of who the [[Son of Man]] is. Peter, in replying that Jesus was the Christ, the Son of the Living God, is shown by Jesus to be revealing a truth from God - a truth on which Jesus would build the [[church]]. The passage is commonly known as the [[Confession of Peter]].
