[[Text:EBD:Brother (EBD)|Brother]] of support = helper, one of the five whom [[Text:EBD:Josiah (EBD)|Josiah]] sent to consult the prophetess [[Text:EBD:Huldah (EBD)|Huldah]] in connection with the discovery of the [[Text:EBD:Book (EBD)|book]] of the [[Text:EBD:Law (EBD)|law]] (2 Kings 22:12-14; 2 Chr. 34:20). He was the son of [[Text:EBD:Shaphan (EBD)|Shaphan]], the royal secretary, and the [[Text:EBD:Father (EBD)|father]] of [[Text:EBD:Gedaliah (EBD)|Gedaliah]], [[Text:EBD:Governor (EBD)|governor]] of [[Text:EBD:Judea (EBD)|Judea]] after the destruction of [[Text:EBD:Jerusalem (EBD)|Jerusalem]] by the [[Text:EBD:Babylon (EBD)|Babylonians]] (2 Kings 25:22; Jer. 40:5-16; 43:6). On one occasion he protected [[Text:EBD:Jeremiah (EBD)|Jeremiah]] against the [[Text:EBD:Fury (EBD)|fury]] of [[Text:EBD:Jehoiakim (EBD)|Jehoiakim]] (Jer. 26:24). It was in the [[Text:EBD:Chamber (EBD)|chamber]] of another son (Germariah) of Shaphan that [[Text:EBD:Baruch (EBD)|Baruch]] read in the [[Text:EBD:Ear (EBD)|ears]] of all the people [[Text:EBD:Jeremiah (EBD)|Jeremiah's]] roll.
