Psalm 49 - Versions
Psalm 49 Text (WEB)
  1. Hear this, all you peoples. Listen, all you inhabitants of the world,
  2. both low and high, rich and poor together.
  3. My mouth will speak words of wisdom. My heart shall utter understanding.
  4. I will incline my ear to a proverb. I will open my riddle on the harp.
  5. Why should I fear in the days of evil, when iniquity at my heels surrounds me?
  6. Those who trust in their wealth, and boast in the multitude of their riches--
  7. none of them can by any means redeem his brother, nor give God a ransom for him.
  8. For the redemption of their life is costly, no payment is ever enough,
  9. That he should live on forever, that he should not see corruption.
  10. For he sees that wise men die; likewise the fool and the senseless perish, and leave their wealth to others.
  11. Their inward thought is that their houses will endure forever, and their dwelling places to all generations. They name their lands after themselves.
  12. But man, despite his riches, doesn't endure. He is like the animals that perish.
  13. This is the destiny of those who are foolish, and of those who approve their sayings. Selah.
  14. They are appointed as a flock for Sheol. Death shall be their shepherd. The upright shall have dominion over them in the morning. Their beauty shall decay in Sheol, far from their mansion.
  15. But God will redeem my soul from the power of Sheol, for he will receive me. Selah.
  16. Don't be afraid when a man is made rich, when the glory of his house is increased.
  17. For when he dies he shall carry nothing away. His glory shall not descend after him.
  18. Though while he lived he blessed his soul-- and men praise you when you do well for yourself--
  19. he shall go to the generation of his fathers. They shall never see the light.
  20. A man who has riches without understanding, is like the animals that perish. A Psalm by Asaph.

  5. למה אירא בימי רע עון עקבי יסובני׃
  6. הבטחים על־חילם וברב עשרם יתהללו׃
  7. אח לא־פדה יפדה איש לא־יתן לאלהים כפרו׃
  8. ויקר פדיון נפשם וחדל לעולם׃
  9. ויחי־עוד לנצח לא יראה השחת׃
  10. אדם ביקר ולא יבין נמשל כבהמות נדמו׃
  11. קרבם בתימו לעולם משכנתם לדר ודר קראו בשמותם עלי אדמות׃
  12. ואדם ביקר בל־ילין נמשל כבהמות נדמו׃
  13. זה דרכם כסל למו ואחריהם בפיהם ירצו סלה׃

  1. ακουσατε ταυτα παντα τα εθνη ενωτισασθε παντες οι κατοικουντες την
  2. οι τε γηγενεις και οι υιοι των ανθρωπων επι το αυτο πλουσιος και
  3. το στομα μου λαλησει σοφιαν και η μελετη της καρδιας μου
  4. κλινω εις παραβολην το ους μου ανοιξω εν ψαλτηριω το προβλημα
  5. ινα τι φοβουμαι εν ημερα πονηρα η ανομια της πτερνης μου κυκλωσει
  6. οι πεποιθοτες επι τη δυναμει αυτων και επι τω πληθει του πλουτου αυτων
  7. αδελφος ου λυτρουται λυτρωσεται ανθρωπος ου δωσει τω θεω εξιλασμα
  8. και την τιμην της λυτρωσεως της ψυχης
  9. και εκοπασεν εις τον αιωνα και ζησεται εις τελος οτι ουκ οψεται καταφθοραν οταν ιδη σοφους
  10. επι το αυτο αφρων και ανους απολουνται και καταλειψουσιν αλλοτριοις τον πλουτον
  11. και οι ταφοι αυτων οικιαι αυτων εις τον αιωνα σκηνωματα αυτων εις γενεαν και γενεαν επεκαλεσαντο τα ονοματα αυτων επι των γαιων
  12. και ανθρωπος εν τιμη ων ου συνηκεν παρασυνεβληθη τοις κτηνεσιν τοις ανοητοις και ωμοιωθη
  13. αυτη η οδος αυτων σκανδαλον αυτοις και μετα ταυτα εν τω στοματι αυτων ευδοκησουσιν
  14. ως προβατα εν αδη εθεντο θανατος ποιμαινει αυτους και κατακυριευσουσιν αυτων οι ευθεις το πρωι και η βοηθεια αυτων παλαιωθησεται εν τω αδη εκ της δοξης
  15. πλην ο θεος λυτρωσεται την ψυχην μου εκ χειρος αδου οταν λαμβανη με
  16. μη φοβου οταν πλουτηση ανθρωπος και οταν πληθυνθη η δοξα του οικου
  17. οτι ουκ εν τω αποθνησκειν αυτον λημψεται τα παντα ουδε συγκαταβησεται αυτω η δοξα
  18. οτι η ψυχη αυτου εν τη ζωη αυτου ευλογηθησεται εξομολογησεται σοι οταν αγαθυνης

  3. Os meum loquetur sapientiam, et meditatio cordis mei prudentiam.
  4. Inclinabo in parabolam aurem meam ; aperiam in psalterio propositionem meam.
  5. Cur timebo in die mala ? Iniquitas calcanei mei circumdabit me.
  6. Qui confidunt in virtute sua, et in multitudine divitiarum suarum gloriantur.
  7. Frater non redimit, redimet homo : non dabit Deo placationem suam,
  8. et pretium redemptionis animæ suæ. Et laborabit in æternum ;
  9. et vivet adhuc in finem.
  10. Non videbit interitum, cum viderit sapientes morientes. Simul insipiens et stultus peribunt ; et relinquent alienis divitias suas ;

  17. quoniam, cum interierit, non sumet omnia, neque descendet cum eo gloria ejus.
  18. Quia anima ejus in vita ipsius benedicetur ; confitebitur tibi cum benefeceris ei.
  19. Introibit usque in progenies patrum suorum ; et usque in æternum non videbit lumen.

  5. Wherefore should I fear in the days of evil, when the iniquity of my heels shall compass me about?
  6. They that trust in their wealth, and boast themselves in the multitude of their riches;
  7. None of them can by any means redeem his brother, nor give to God a ransom for him:
  8. (For the redemption of their soul is precious, and it ceaseth for ever:)
  9. That he should still live for ever, and not see corruption.
  10. For he seeth that wise men die, likewise the fool and the brutish person perish, and leave their wealth to others.
  11. Their inward thought is, that their houses shall continue for ever, and their dwelling places to all generations; they call their lands after their own names.
  12. Nevertheless man being in honour abideth not: he is like the beasts that perish.
  13. This their way is their folly: yet their posterity approve their sayings. Selah.
  14. Like sheep they are laid in the grave; death shall feed on them; and the upright shall have dominion over them in the morning; and their beauty shall consume in the grave from their dwelling.
  15. But God will redeem my soul from the power of the grave: for he shall receive me. Selah.
  16. Be not thou afraid when one is made rich, when the glory of his house is increased;
  17. For when he dieth he shall carry nothing away: his glory shall not descend after him.
  18. Though while he lived he blessed his soul: and men will praise thee, when thou doest well to thyself.
  19. He shall go to the generation of his fathers; they shall never see light.
  20. Man that is in honour, and understandeth not, is like the beasts that perish.
