no edit summary
The prophet Isaiah gave this message to the people of Israel and Judah within the context of two of their kings: Ahaz, who led the people away from God; and Hezekiah who returned the people to God. It was also in the context of instability with war with Assyria. In Isaiah 9, a new and ideal king from the line of King David is presented. One who, like Hezekiah will worship and honour God. This king however will deliver peace and protection from surrounding armies and bring justice to the land. The passage describes the king with the well known words:
: isaiah isaiah

This ideal king in the light of the New Testament
The New Testament suggests that Jesus is the fulfillment of this promise of an ideal king who will bring peace.
