Synopsis: The liturgical year (or Christian calendar) consists of the cycle of liturgical seasons in some Christian churches which determines when commemorations, festivals and feasts are to be observed and which portions of the Bible are to be read. The dates of the festivals vary somewhat between the Western and Eastern churches.
