And there were shepherds living out in the fields nearby, keeping watch over their flocks by night. An angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were terrified. But the angel said to them, "Do not be afraid. I bring you good news of great joy that will be fore all the people. Today in the town of David a saviour has been born to you. He is Christ, the Lord. This will be a sign to you: You will find a baby wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger." (Luke 2:8-15)

"The First Noel" is a well known Christmas carol.

Words

The first Noel, the angels did say

Was to certain poor shepherds in fields as they lay

In fields where they lay keeping their sheep

On a cold winter's night that was so deep

Noel, Noel, Noel, Noel, born in the king of Israel

They looked up and saw a star

Shining in the east, beyond them far

And to the earth it gave great light

And so it continued both day and night

Noel, Noel, Noel, Noel, born in the king of Israel

This star drew nigh to the northwest

Over Bethlehem it took its rest

And there it did both stop and stay

Right over the place where Jesus lay

Noel, Noel, Noel, Noel, born in the king of Israel

Then entered in those wise men three

Full reverently upon their knee

And offered there, in his presence

Their gold and myrrh and frankincense

Noel, Noel, Noel, Noel, born in the king of Israel
