  1. I exhort the elders among you, as a fellow elder, and a witness of the sufferings of Christ, and who will also share in the glory that will be revealed.
  2. Shepherd the flock of God which is among you, exercising the oversight, not under compulsion, but voluntarily, not for dishonest gain, but willingly;
  3. neither as lording it over those entrusted to you, but making yourselves examples to the flock.
  4. When the chief Shepherd is revealed, you will receive the crown of glory that doesn't fade away.
  5. Likewise, you younger ones, be subject to the elder. Yes, all of you clothe yourselves with humility, to subject yourselves to one another; for "God resists the proud, but gives grace to the humble."
  6. Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time;
  7. casting all your worries on him, because he cares for you.
  8. Be sober and self-controlled. Be watchful. Your adversary, the devil, walks around like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour.
  9. Withstand him steadfast in your faith, knowing that your brothers who are in the world are undergoing the same sufferings.
  10. But may the God of all grace, who called you to his eternal glory by Christ Jesus, after you have suffered a little while, perfect, establish, strengthen, and settle you.
  11. To him be the glory and the power forever and ever. Amen.
  12. Through Silvanus, our faithful brother, as I consider him, I have written to you briefly, exhorting, and testifying that this is the true grace of God in which you stand.
  13. She who is in Babylon, chosen together with you, greets you; and so does Mark, my son.
  14. Greet one another with a kiss of love. Peace be to you all who are in Christ Jesus. Amen.

  1. את הזקנים אשר בקרבכם אזהיר אנכי עמיתם הזקן ועד ענויי המשיח וגם חבר לכבוד העתיד להגלות׃
  2. רעו את עדר האלהים אשר בידכם והשגיחו עליהם לא באנס כי אם בנדבה אף לא עקב בצע כי אם בנפש חפצה׃
  3. גם לא כמתעמרים בנחלת יהוה כי אם בהיותכם מופת לצאן׃
  4. והיה בהגלות שר הרעים תשאו עטרת הכבוד אשר לא תבל׃
  5. וכן גם אתם הנערים הכנעו לפני הזקנים וחגרו כלכם שפלות רוח בהכנע איש לרעהו כי אלהים ללצים יליץ ולענוים יתן חן׃
  6. השפילו נפשכם תחת יד אלהים החזקה למען ירומם אתכם בעתו׃
  7. השליכו עליו כל יהבכם כי הוא ידאג לכם׃
  8. התעוררו שקדו כי מריבכם השטן משוטט כאריה שאג ומבקש את אשר יבלע׃
  9. ועמדתם נגדו חזקים באמונה ודעו כי ענוים כאלה באו גם על אחיכם אשר בעולם׃
  10. ואלהי כל החסד אשר קראנו לכבודו הנצחי במשיח ישוע אחרי ענותכם מעט הוא ישלים ויחזק ויגבר וייסד אתכם׃
  11. לו הכבוד והעז לעולמי עולמים אמן׃
  12. ביד סלונוס האח הנאמן לכם כאשר אחשב כתבתי אליכם בדברים מעטים להזהיר אתכם ולהעיד כי חסד האלהים הזה אשר עמדתם בו אמת הוא׃
  13. חברתכם אשר בבבל הנבחרה אתכם ומרקוס בני שאלים לשלומכם׃
  14. שאלו לשלום איש את רעהו בנשיקת אהבה שלום לכלכם אשר במשיח ישוע אמן׃

  1. πρεσβυτερους ουν εν υμιν παρακαλω ο συμπρεσβυτερος και μαρτυς των του χριστου παθηματων ο και της μελλουσης αποκαλυπτεσθαι δοξης κοινωνος
  2. ποιμανατε το εν υμιν ποιμνιον του θεου μη αναγκαστως αλλα εκουσιως μηδε αισχροκερδως αλλα προθυμως
  3. μηδ ως κατακυριευοντες των κληρων αλλα τυποι γινομενοι του ποιμνιου
  4. και φανερωθεντος του αρχιποιμενος κομιεισθε τον αμαραντινον της δοξης στεφανον
  5. ομοιως νεωτεροι υποταγητε πρεσβυτεροις παντες δε αλληλοις την ταπεινοφροσυνην εγκομβωσασθε οτι θεος υπερηφανοις αντιτασσεται ταπεινοις δε διδωσιν χαριν
  6. ταπεινωθητε ουν υπο την κραταιαν χειρα του θεου ινα υμας υψωση εν καιρω
  7. πασαν την μεριμναν υμων επιριψαντες επ αυτον οτι αυτω μελει περι υμων
  8. νηψατε γρηγορησατε ο αντιδικος υμων διαβολος ως λεων ωρυομενος περιπατει ζητων καταπιειν
  9. ω αντιστητε στερεοι τη πιστει ειδοτες τα αυτα των παθηματων τη εν κοσμω υμων αδελφοτητι επιτελεισθαι
  10. ο δε θεος πασης χαριτος ο καλεσας υμας εις την αιωνιον αυτου δοξαν εν χριστω ολιγον παθοντας αυτος καταρτισει στηριξει σθενωσει [[Greek:{VAR2:|{VAR2:]] θεμελιωσει
  11. αυτω το κρατος εις τους αιωνας αμην
  12. δια σιλουανου υμιν του πιστου αδελφου ως λογιζομαι δι ολιγων εγραψα παρακαλων και επιμαρτυρων ταυτην ειναι αληθη χαριν του θεου εις ην στητε
  13. ασπαζεται υμας η εν βαβυλωνι συνεκλεκτη και μαρκος ο υιος μου
  14. ασπασασθε αλληλους εν φιληματι αγαπης ειρηνη υμιν πασιν τοις εν χριστω

  1. Seniores ergo, qui in vobis sunt, obsecro, consenior et testis Christi passionum : qui et ejus, quæ in futuro revelanda est, gloriæ communicator :
  2. pascite qui in vobis est gregem Dei, providentes non coacte, sed spontanee secundum Deum : neque turpis lucri gratia, sed voluntarie :
  3. neque ut dominantes in cleris, sed forma facti gregis ex animo.
  4. Et cum apparuerit princeps pastorum, percipietis immarcescibilem gloriæ coronam.
  5. Similiter adolescentes subditi estote senioribus. Omnes autem invicem humilitatem insinuate, quia Deus superbis resistit, humilibus autem dat gratiam.
  6. Humiliamini igitur sub potenti manu Dei, ut vos exaltet in tempore visitationis :
  7. omnem sollicitudinem vestram projicientes in eum, quoniam ipsi cura est de vobis.
  8. Sobrii estote, et vigilate : quia adversarius vester diabolus tamquam leo rugiens circuit, quærens quem devoret :
  9. cui resistite fortes in fide : scientes eamdem passionem ei quæ in mundo est vestræ fraternitati fieri.
  10. Deus autem omnis gratiæ, qui vocavit nos in æternam suam gloriam in Christo Jesu, modicum passos ipse perficiet, confirmabit, solidabitque.
  11. Ipsi gloria, et imperium in sæcula sæculorum. Amen.
  12. Per Silvanum fidelem fratrem vobis, ut arbitror, breviter scripsi : obsecrans et contestans, hanc esse veram gratiam Dei, in qua statis.
  13. Salutat vos ecclesia quæ est in Babylone coëlecta, et Marcus filius meus.
  14. Salutate invicem in osculo sancto. Gratia vobis omnibus qui estis in Christo Jesu. Amen.

  1. The elders which are among you I exhort, who am also an elder, and a witness of the sufferings of Christ, and also a partaker of the glory that shall be revealed:
  2. Feed the flock of God which is among you, taking the oversight thereof, not by constraint, but willingly; not for filthy lucre, but of a ready mind;
  3. Neither as being lords over God's heritage, but being ensamples to the flock.
  4. And when the chief Shepherd shall appear, ye shall receive a crown of glory that fadeth not away.
  5. Likewise, ye younger, submit yourselves unto the elder. Yea, all of you be subject one to another, and be clothed with humility: for God resisteth the proud, and giveth grace to the humble.
  6. Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time:
  7. Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you.
  8. Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour:
  9. Whom resist stedfast in the faith, knowing that the same afflictions are accomplished in your brethren that are in the world.
  10. But the God of all grace, who hath called us unto his eternal glory by Christ Jesus, after that ye have suffered a while, make you perfect, stablish, strengthen, settle you.
  11. To him be glory and dominion for ever and ever. Amen.
