Apologetics: The Qur'an Teaches Jesus' Disciples Overcame (JBJ)

. . . As said Jesus the son of Mary to the Disciples, "Who will be my helpers to (the work of) Allah?" Said the disciples, "We are Allah's helpers!" then a portion of the Children of Israel believed, and a portion disbelieved: But We gave power to those who believed, against their enemies, and they became the ones that prevailed. 61.14 Yusuf Ali

The Qur'an says that some Jews followed Jesus and some did not and God gave power to the believers. (Pickthall "we strengthened" and Shakir "we aided.") This follows the theme of the Qur'an where God helps those who believers and works against disbelievers. This theme has no exception in the Qur'an, except that God did not help the Muslims for a limited time. Examples of the theme in the Qur'an are:

Believers Blessed

  • Moses
  • Joseph
  • Jesus's death

Unbelievers Hindered

  • Haman
  • Pharoah and his army

This is significant because if God truly blessed the disciples of Jesus, their message would have survived for a time, if not until the present, at least long enough for their to be a historical record. It could not be possible for anyone to corrupt the Injil that the disciples had. Therefore, the Qur'an does not teach that Christianity was lost and corrupted but survived for at least some time. Many different groups are known in the first century that claimed to follow Jesus like the Gnostics. However, none of these groups fits the Qur'an as well as orthodox Christianity.
