- Blow the trumpet in Zion, and sound an alarm in my holy mountain! Let all the inhabitants of the land tremble, for the day of Yahweh comes, for it is close at hand:
- A day of darkness and gloominess, a day of clouds and thick darkness. As the dawn spreading on the mountains, a great and strong people; there has never been the like, neither will there be any more after them, even to the years of many generations.
- A fire devours before them, and behind them, a flame burns. The land is as the garden of Eden before them, and behind them, a desolate wilderness. Yes, and no one has escaped them.
- The appearance of them is as the appearance of horses, and as horsemen, so do they run.
- Like the noise of chariots on the tops of the mountains do they leap, like the noise of a flame of fire that devours the stubble, as a strong people set in battle array.
- At their presence the peoples are in anguish. All faces have grown pale.
- They run like mighty men. They climb the wall like warriors. They each march in his line, and they don't swerve off course.
- Neither does one jostle another; they march everyone in his path, and they burst through the defenses, and don't break ranks.
- They rush on the city. They run on the wall. They climb up into the houses. They enter in at the windows like thieves.
- The earth quakes before them. The heavens tremble. The sun and the moon are darkened, and the stars withdraw their shining.
- Yahweh thunders his voice before his army; for his forces are very great; for he is strong who obeys his command; for the day of Yahweh is great and very awesome, and who can endure it?
- "Yet even now," says Yahweh, "turn to me with all your heart, and with fasting, and with weeping, and with mourning."
- Tear your heart, and not your garments, and turn to Yahweh, your God; for he is gracious and merciful, slow to anger, and abundant in loving kindness, and relents from sending calamity.
- Who knows? He may turn and relent, and leave a blessing behind him, even a meal offering and a drink offering to Yahweh, your God.
- Blow the trumpet in Zion! Sanctify a fast. Call a solemn assembly.
- Gather the people. Sanctify the assembly. Assemble the elders. Gather the children, and those who nurse from breasts. Let the bridegroom go forth from his room, and the bride out of her room.
- Let the priests, the ministers of Yahweh, weep between the porch and the altar, and let them say, "Spare your people, Yahweh, and don't give your heritage to reproach, that the nations should rule over them. Why should they say among the peoples, 'Where is their God?'"
- Then Yahweh was jealous for his land, And had pity on his people.
- Yahweh answered his people, "Behold, I will send you grain, new wine, and oil, and you will be satisfied with them; and I will no more make you a reproach among the nations.
- But I will remove the northern army far away from you, and will drive it into a barren and desolate land, its front into the eastern sea, and its back into the western sea; and its stench will come up, and its bad smell will rise." Surely he has done great things.
- Land, don't be afraid. Be glad and rejoice, for Yahweh has done great things.
- Don't be afraid, you animals of the field; for the pastures of the wilderness spring up, for the tree bears its fruit. The fig tree and the vine yield their strength.
- "Be glad then, you children of Zion, and rejoice in Yahweh, your God; for he gives you the former rain in just measure, and he causes the rain to come down for you, the former rain and the latter rain, as before.
- The threshing floors will be full of wheat, and the vats will overflow with new wine and oil.
- I will restore to you the years that the swarming locust has eaten, the great locust, the grasshopper, and the caterpillar, my great army, which I sent among you.
- You will have plenty to eat, and be satisfied, and will praise the name of Yahweh, your God, who has dealt wondrously with you; and my people will never again be disappointed.
- You will know that I am in the midst of Israel, and that I am Yahweh, your God, and there is no one else; and my people will never again be disappointed.
- "It will happen afterward, that I will pour out my Spirit on all flesh; and your sons and your daughters will prophesy. Your old men will dream dreams. Your young men will see visions.
- And also on the servants and on the handmaids in those days, I will pour out my Spirit.
- I will show wonders in the heavens and in the earth: blood, fire, and pillars of smoke.
- The sun will be turned into darkness, and the moon into blood, before the great and terrible day of Yahweh comes.
- It will happen that whoever will call on the name of Yahweh shall be saved; for in Mount Zion and in Jerusalem there will be those who escape, as Yahweh has said, and among the remnant, those whom Yahweh calls.

- תקעו שופר בציון והריעו בהר קדשי ירגזו כל ישבי הארץ כי־בא יום־יהוה כי קרוב׃
- יום חשך ואפלה יום עןן וערפל כשחר פרש על־ההרים עם רב ועצום כמהו לא נהיה מן־העולם ואחריו לא יוסף עד־שני דור ודור׃
- לפניו אכלה אש ואחריו תלהט להבה כגן־עדן הארץ לפניו ואחריו מדבר שממה וגם־פליטה לא־היתה לו׃
- כמראה סוסים מראהו וכפרשים כן ירוצון׃
- כקול מרכבות על־ראשי ההרים ירקדון כקול להב אש אכלה קש כעם עצום ערוך מלחמה׃
- מפניו יחילו עמים כל־פנים קבצו פארור׃
- כגבורים ירצון כאנשי מלחמה יעלו חומה ואיש בדרכיו ילכון ולא יעבטון ארחותם׃
- ואיש אחיו לא ידחקון גבר במסלתו ילכון ובעד השלח יפלו לא יבצעו׃
- בעיר ישקו בחומה ירצון בבתים יעלו בעד החלונים יבאו כגנב׃
- לפניו רגזה ארץ רעשו שמים שמש וירח קדרו וכוכבים אספו נגהם׃
- ויהוה נתן קולו לפני חילו כי רב מאד מחנהו כי עצום עשה דברו כי־גדול יום־יהוה ונורא מאד ומי יכילנו׃
- וגם־עתה נאם־יהוה שבו עדי בכל־לבבכם ובצום ובבכי ובמספד׃
- וקרעו לבבכם ואל־בגדיכם ושובו אל־יהוה אלהיכם כי־חנון ורחום הוא ארך אפים ורב־חסד ונחם על־הרעה׃
- מי יודע ישוב ונחם והשאיר אחריו ברכה מנחה ונסך ליהוה אלהיכם׃ ף
- תקעו שופר בציון קדשו־צום קראו עצרה׃
- אספו־עם קדשו קהל קבצו זקנים אספו עוללים וינקי שדים יצא חתן מחדרו וכלה מחפתה׃
- בין האולם ולמזבח יבכו הכהנים משרתי יהוה ויאמרו חוסה יהוה על־עמך ואל־תתן נחלתך לחרפה למשל־בם גוים למה יאמרו בעמים איה אלהיהם׃
- ויקנא יהוה לארצו ויחמל על־עמו׃
- ויען יהוה ויאמר לעמו הנני שלח לכם את־הדגן והתירוש והיצהר ושבעתם אתו ולא־אתן אתכם עוד חרפה בגוים׃
- ואת־הצפוני ארחיק מעליכם והדחתיו אל־ארץ ציה ושממה את־פניו אל־הים הקדמני וספו אל־הים האחרון ועלה באשו ותעל צחנתו כי הגדיל לעשות׃
- אל־תיראי אדמה גילי ושמחי כי־הגדיל יהוה לעשות׃
- אל־תיראו בהמות שדי כי דשאו נאות מדבר כי־עץ נשא פריו תאנה וגפן נתנו חילם׃
- ובני ציון גילו ושמחו ביהוה אלהיכם כי־נתן לכם את־המורה לצדקה ויורד לכם גשם מורה ומלקוש בראשון׃
- ומלאו הגרנות בר והשיקו היקבים תירוש ויצהר׃
- ושלמתי לכם את־השנים אשר אכל הארבה הילק והחסיל והגזם חילי הגדול אשר שלחתי בכם׃
- ואכלתם אכול ושבוע והללתם את־שם יהוה אלהיכם אשר־עשה עםכם להפליא ולא־יבשו עמי לעולם׃
- וידעתם כי בקרב ישראל אני ואני יהוה אלהיכם ואין עוד ולא־יבשו עמי לעולם׃ ס
- והיה אחרי־כן אשפוך את־רוחי על־כל־בשר ונבאו בניכם ובנותיכם זקניכם חלמות יחלמון בחוריכם חזינות יראו׃
- וגם על־העבדים ועל־השפחות בימים ההמה אשפוך את־רוחי׃
- ונתתי מופתים בשמים ובארץ דם ואש ותימרות עשן׃
- השמש יהפך לחשך והירח לדם לפני בוא יום יהוה הגדול והנורא׃
- והיה כל אשר־יקרא בשם יהוה ימלט כי בהר־ציון ובירושלם תהיה פליטה כאשר אמר יהוה ובשרידים אשר יהוה קרא׃

- Canite tuba in Sion, ululate in monte sancto meo, conturbentur omnes habitatores terræ : quia venit dies Domini, quia prope est.
- Dies tenebrarum et caliginis, dies nubis et turbinis ; quasi mane expansum super montes populus multus et fortis : similis ei non fuit a principio, et post eum non erit usque in annos generationis et generationis.
- Ante faciem ejus ignis vorans, et post eum exurens flamma. Quasi hortus voluptatis terra coram eo, et post eum solitudo deserti, neque est qui effugiat eum.
- Quasi aspectus equorum, aspectus eorum ; et quasi equites, sic current.
- Sicut sonitus quadrigarum super capita montium exilient, sicut sonitus flammæ ignis devorantis stipulam, velut populus fortis præparatus ad prælium.
- A facie ejus cruciabuntur populi ; omnes vultus redigentur in ollam.
- Sicut fortes current ; quasi viri bellatores ascendent murum : viri in viis suis gradientur, et non declinabunt a semitis suis.
- Unusquisque fratrem suum non coarctabit, singuli in calle suo ambulabunt ; sed et per fenestras cadent, et non demolientur.

- congregate populum, sanctificate ecclesiam, coadunate senes, congregate parvulos, et sugentes ubera ; egrediatur sponsus de cubili suo, et sponsa de thalamo suo.
- Inter vestibulum et altare plorabunt sacerdotes, ministri Domini, et dicent : Parce, Domine, parce populo tuo ; et ne des hæreditatem tuam in opprobrium, ut dominentur eis nationes. Quare dicunt in populis : Ubi est Deus eorum ?
- Zelatus est Dominus terram suam, et pepercit populo suo.

- A day of darkness and of gloominess, a day of clouds and of thick darkness, as the morning spread upon the mountains: a great people and a strong; there hath not been ever the like, neither shall be any more after it, even to the years of many generations.
- A fire devoureth before them; and behind them a flame burneth: the land is as the garden of Eden before them, and behind them a desolate wilderness; yea, and nothing shall escape them.
- The appearance of them is as the appearance of horses; and as horsemen, so shall they run.
- Like the noise of chariots on the tops of mountains shall they leap, like the noise of a flame of fire that devoureth the stubble, as a strong people set in battle array.
- Before their face the people shall be much pained: all faces shall gather blackness.

- Gather the people, sanctify the congregation, assemble the elders, gather the children, and those that suck the breasts: let the bridegroom go forth of his chamber, and the bride out of her closet.
- Let the priests, the ministers of the LORD, weep between the porch and the altar, and let them say, Spare thy people, O LORD, and give not thine heritage to reproach, that the heathen should rule over them: wherefore should they say among the people, Where is their God?
- Then will the LORD be jealous for his land, and pity his people.
- Yea, the LORD will answer and say unto his people, Behold, I will send you corn, and wine, and oil, and ye shall be satisfied therewith: and I will no more make you a reproach among the heathen:
- But I will remove far off from you the northern army, and will drive him into a land barren and desolate, with his face toward the east sea, and his hinder part toward the utmost sea, and his stink shall come up, and his ill savour shall come up, because he hath done great things.
- Fear not, O land; be glad and rejoice: for the LORD will do great things.
- Be not afraid, ye beasts of the field: for the pastures of the wilderness do spring, for the tree beareth her fruit, the fig tree and the vine do yield their strength.
- Be glad then, ye children of Zion, and rejoice in the LORD your God: for he hath given you the former rain moderately, and he will cause to come down for you the rain, the former rain, and the latter rain in the first month.
- And the floors shall be full of wheat, and the fats shall overflow with wine and oil.
- And I will restore to you the years that the locust hath eaten, the cankerworm, and the caterpiller, and the palmerworm, my great army which I sent among you.
- And ye shall eat in plenty, and be satisfied, and praise the name of the LORD your God, that hath dealt wondrously with you: and my people shall never be ashamed.
- And ye shall know that I am in the midst of Israel, and that I am the LORD your God, and none else: and my people shall never be ashamed.
- And it shall come to pass afterward, that I will pour out my spirit upon all flesh; and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, your old men shall dream dreams, your young men shall see visions:
