- Balaam said to Balak, "Build me here seven altars, and prepare me here seven bulls and seven rams."
- Balak did as Balaam had spoken; and Balak and Balaam offered on every altar a bull and a ram.
- Balaam said to Balak, "Stand by your burnt offering, and I will go: perhaps Yahweh will come to meet me; and whatever he shows me I will tell you." He went to a bare height.
- God met Balaam: and he said to him, "I have prepared the seven altars, and I have offered up a bull and a ram on every altar."
- Yahweh put a word in Balaam's mouth, and said, "Return to Balak, and thus you shall speak."
- He returned to him, and behold, he was standing by his burnt offering, he, and all the princes of Moab.
- He took up his parable, and said, "From Aram has Balak brought me, the king of Moab from the mountains of the East. Come, curse Jacob for me. Come, defy Israel.
- How shall I curse whom God has not cursed? How shall I defy whom Yahweh has not defied?
- For from the top of the rocks I see him. From the hills I see him. Behold, it is a people that dwells alone, and shall not be reckoned among the nations.
- Who can count the dust of Jacob, or number the fourth part of Israel? Let me die the death of the righteous! Let my last end be like his!"
- Balak said to Balaam, "What have you done to me? I took you to curse my enemies, and behold, you have blessed them altogether."
- He answered and said, "Must I not take heed to speak that which Yahweh puts in my mouth?"
- Balak said to him, "Please come with me to another place, where you may see them; you shall see but the utmost part of them, and shall not see them all: and curse me them from there."
- He took him into the field of Zophim, to the top of Pisgah, and built seven altars, and offered up a bull and a ram on every altar.
- He said to Balak, "Stand here by your burnt offering, while I meet [Yahweh] yonder."
- Yahweh met Balaam, and put a word in his mouth, and said, "Return to Balak, and say this."
- He came to him, and behold, he was standing by his burnt offering, and the princes of Moab with him. Balak said to him, "What has Yahweh spoken?"
- He took up his parable, and said, "Rise up, Balak, and hear! Listen to me, you son of Zippor.
- God is not a man, that he should lie, nor the son of man, that he should repent. Has he said, and will he not do it? Or has he spoken, and will he not make it good?
- Behold, I have received a command to bless. He has blessed, and I can't reverse it.
- He has not seen iniquity in Jacob. Neither has he seen perverseness in Israel. Yahweh his God is with him. The shout of a king is among them.
- God brings them out of Egypt. He has as it were the strength of the wild ox.
- Surely there is no enchantment with Jacob; Neither is there any divination with Israel. Now it shall be said of Jacob and of Israel, What has God done!
- Behold, the people rises up as a lioness, As a lion he lifts himself up. He shall not lie down until he eat of the prey, and drinks the blood of the slain."
- Balak said to Balaam, "Neither curse them at all, nor bless them at all."
- But Balaam answered Balak, "Didn't I tell you, saying, 'All that Yahweh speaks, that I must do?'"
- Balak said to Balaam, "Come now, I will take you to another place; perhaps it will please God that you may curse me them from there."
- Balak took Balaam to the top of Peor, that looks down on the desert.
- Balaam said to Balak, "Build me here seven altars, and prepare me here seven bulls and seven rams."
- Balak did as Balaam had said, and offered up a bull and a ram on every altar.

- ויאמר בלעם אל־בלק בנה־לי בזה שבעה מזבחת והכן לי בזה שבעה פרים ושבעה אילים׃
- ויעש בלק כאשר דבר בלעם ויעל בלק ובלעם פר ואיל במזבח׃
- ויאמר בלעם לבלק התיצב על־עלתך ואלכה אולי יקרה יהוה לקראתי ודבר מה־יראני והגדתי לך וילך שפי׃
- ויקר אלהים אל־בלעם ויאמר אליו את־שבעת המזבחת ערכתי ואעל פר ואיל במזבח׃
- וישם יהוה דבר בפי בלעם ויאמר שוב אל־בלק וכה תדבר׃
- וישב אליו והנה נצב על־עלתו הוא וכל־שרי מואב׃
- וישא משלו ויאמר מן־ארם ינחני בלק מלך־מואב מהררי־קדם לכה ארה־לי יעקב ולכה זעמה ישראל׃
- מה אקב לא קבה אל ומה אזעם לא זעם יהוה׃
- כי־מראש צרים אראנו ומגבעות אשורנו הן־עם לבדד ישכן ובגוים לא יתחשב׃
- מי מנה עפר יעקב ומספר את־רבע ישראל תמת נפשי מות ישרים ותהי אחריתי כמהו׃
- ויאמר בלק אל־בלעם מה עשית לי לקב איבי לקחתיך והנה ברכת ברך׃
- ויען ויאמר הלא את אשר ישים יהוה בפי אתו אשמר לדבר׃
- ויאמר אליו בלק ־נא אתי אל־מקום אחר אשר תראנו משם אפס קצהו תראה וכלו לא תראה וקבנו־לי משם׃
- ויקחהו שדה צפים אל־ראש הפסגה ויבן שבעה מזבחת ויעל פר ואיל במזבח׃
- ויאמר אל־בלק התיצב כה על־עלתך ואנכי אקרה כה׃
- ויקר יהוה אל־בלעם וישם דבר בפיו ויאמר שוב אל־בלק וכה תדבר׃
- ויבא אליו והנו נצב על־עלתו ושרי מואב אתו ויאמר לו בלק מה־דבר יהוה׃
- וישא משלו ויאמר קום בלק ושמע האזינה עדי בנו צפר׃
- לא איש אל ויכזב ובן־אדם ויתנחם ההוא אמר ולא יעשה ודבר ולא יקימנה׃
- הנה ברך לקחתי וברך ולא אשיבנה׃
- לא־הביט און ביעקב ולא־ראה עמל בישראל יהוה אלהיו עמו ותרועת מלך בו׃
- אל מוציאם ממצרים כתועפת ראם לו׃
- כי לא־נחש ביעקב ולא־קסם בישראל כעת יאמר ליעקב ולישראל מה־פעל אל׃
- הן־עם כלביא יקום וכארי יתנשא לא ישכב עד־יאכל טרף ודם־חללים ישתה׃
- ויאמר בלק אל־בלעם גם־קב לא תקבנו גם־ברך לא תברכנו׃
- ויען בלעם ויאמר אל־בלק הלא דברתי אליך לאמר כל אשר־ידבר יהוה אתו אעשה׃
- ויאמר בלק אל־בלעם לכה־נא אקחך אל־מקום אחר אולי יישר בעיני האלהים וקבתו לי משם׃
- ויקח בלק את־בלעם ראש הפעור הנשקף על־פני הישימן׃

- Dixitque Balaam ad Balac : Ædifica mihi hic septem aras, et para totidem vitulos, ejusdemque numeri arietes.
- Cumque fecisset juxta sermonem Balaam, imposuerunt simul vitulum et arietem super aram.
- Dixitque Balaam ad Balac : Sta paulisper juxta holocaustum tuum, donec vadam, si forte occurrat mihi Dominus, et quodcumque imperaverit, loquar tibi.
- Cumque abiisset velociter, occurrit illi Deus. Locutusque ad eum Balaam : Septem, inquit, aras erexi, et imposui vitulum et arietem desuper.
- Dominus autem posuit verbum in ore ejus, et ait : Revertere ad Balac, et hæc loqueris.
- Reversus invenit stantem Balac juxta holocaustum suum, et omnes principes Moabitarum :
- assumptaque parabola sua, dixit : De Aram adduxit me Balac rex Moabitarum, de montibus orientis : Veni, inquit, et maledic Jacob ; propera, et detestare Israël.
- Quomodo maledicam, cui non maledixit Deus ? qua ratione detester, quem Dominus non detestatur ?
- De summis silicibus videbo eum, et de collibus considerabo illum. Populus solus habitabit, et inter gentes non reputabitur.
- Quis dinumerare possit pulverem Jacob, et nosse numerum stirpis Israël ? Moriatur anima mea morte justorum, et fiant novissima mea horum similia.
- Dixitque Balac ad Balaam : Quid est hoc quod agis ? ut malediceres inimicis meis vocavi te, et tu e contrario benedicis eis.
- Cui ille respondit : Num aliud possum loqui, nisi quod jusserit Dominus ?
- Dixit ergo Balac : Veni mecum in alterum locum unde partem Israël videas, et totum videre non possis : inde maledicito ei.
- Cumque duxisset eum in locum sublimem, super verticem montis Phasga, ædificavit Balaam septem aras, et impositis supra vitulo atque ariete,
- dixit ad Balac : Sta hic juxta holocaustum tuum, donec ego obvius pergam.
- Cui cum Dominus occurrisset, posuissetque verbum in ore ejus, ait : Revertere ad Balac, et hæc loqueris ei.
- Reversus invenit eum stantem juxta holocaustum suum, et principes Moabitarum cum eo. Ad quem Balac : Quid, inquit, locutus est Dominus ?
- At ille, assumpta parabola sua, ait : Sta, Balac, et ausculta ; audi, fili Sephor :
- non est Deus quasi homo, ut mentiatur, nec ut filius hominis, ut mutetur. Dixit ergo, et non faciet ? locutus est, et non implebit ?
- Ad benedicendum adductus sum : benedictionem prohibere non valeo.
- Non est idolum in Jacob, nec videtur simulacrum in Israël. Dominus Deus ejus cum eo est, et clangor victoriæ regis in illo.
- Deus eduxit illum de Ægypto, cujus fortitudo similis est rhinocerotis.
- Non est augurium in Jacob, nec divinatio in Israël : temporibus suis dicetur Jacob et Israëli quid operatus sit Deus.

- Dixitque Balac ad Balaam : Nec maledicas ei, nec benedicas.

- Et ait Balac ad eum : Veni, et ducam te ad alium locum : si forte placeat Deo ut inde maledicas eis.

- And Balak did as Balaam had spoken; and Balak and Balaam offered on every altar a bullock and a ram.
- And Balaam said unto Balak, Stand by thy burnt offering, and I will go: peradventure the LORD will come to meet me: and whatsoever he sheweth me I will tell thee. And he went to an high place.
- And God met Balaam: and he said unto him, I have prepared seven altars, and I have offered upon every altar a bullock and a ram.
- And the LORD put a word in Balaam's mouth, and said, Return unto Balak, and thus thou shalt speak.
- And he returned unto him, and, lo, he stood by his burnt sacrifice, he, and all the princes of Moab.
- And he took up his parable, and said, Balak the king of Moab hath brought me from Aram, out of the mountains of the east, saying, Come, curse me Jacob, and come, defy Israel.
- How shall I curse, whom God hath not cursed? or how shall I defy, whom the LORD hath not defied?

- And Balak said unto Balaam, Come, I pray thee, I will bring thee unto another place; peradventure it will please God that thou mayest curse me them from thence.
- And Balak brought Balaam unto the top of Peor, that looketh toward Jeshimon.
