The station was set up in 1931 by [[Guglielmo Marconi]] with the [[Jesuit Order]] charged with its management. During World War II and the rise of Fascist Italy and Nazi Germany, Vatican Radio served as a source of pro-allied and neutral news. During the war [[Pope Pius XII]] saw to it that the Vatican Radio broadcast information about Poles and [[Jew]]s were being rounded up and forced into ghettos.
