This account of a [[God is holy|holy God]] can be a difficult account for Christians to come to grips with. As members of the early church, Ananias and Sapphira sold a possession and gave some of the money to be common wealth for all church members, but lied, saying that they gave all the money to the church. As judgement God struck them down. The issue was not that they only gave some of their money, but that they lied. This reveals the importance of integrity - our words and lives, private and public, need to match. It also reveals how important it was for the early church to have a firm foundation based on truth. Acts 5 continues showing how the community of believers was a clearly visible community within Jerusalem. The believers were highly regarded, which suggests that they continued to practice as devout Jews. This is further shown by the fact that they continued to meet in the Temple. The chapter finishes with the [[Sadducee]]'s having the apostles arrested, but being rescued by God. Peter's fourth message is then recounted.
