January Scripture Portion: Genesis 1 - Leviticus 3 including the book of Exodus.

Jacob and his entire family were exalted in the land of Egypt and given the land of Goshen. The Israelites became prosperous and soon lost sight of the covenant promise. They also began to take part in the sins of Egypt.

In a time of prosperity hearts often grow cold and indifferent toward the Lord. It is easy to become involved in material things. Such was the case with the nation of Israel. They were satisfied in Egypt and soon were entirely enslaved by the nation that welcomed them.

This is a perfect parallel of how worldly things can enslave the believer today. Satan sees that it is so easy to get our minds off the things of God and on the things of the world. But God has made a way of escape through His mercy and grace. The Holy Spirit , who indwells the heart of the believer, is our daily substance. In Galatians 2:20 Paul tells us, "...and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me.".

Be careful in your daily living! Never get careless about the things of God, and beware of the snares that Satan would bring before you. I John 2:15 tells us to, "Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world.".
